Oil-tanker tracking company TankerTrak says Venezuela’s oil exports jumped following the detention of Nicolás Maduro, the former president of the country, by special U.S. military forces in January this year.
Based on this report, since Maduro’s detention, Venezuela has had 200 million barrels of oil exports, which is 19% more than the same period last year.
Before Maduro’s detention, Venezuela’s sanctioned oil was being shipped to China with steep discounts, but TankerTrak says more than 20 countries are now customers for Venezuela’s oil.
The value of Venezuela’s oil exports in the first half of this year has been about $14 to $15 billion.
