More than “10,000 attacks on the health sector in 29 countries,” including Iran, without accountability for perpetrators

🔸The World Health Organization says that since 2018, more than 10,000 attacks or assaults on facilities, health workers, and healthcare services have been recorded in 29 countries and areas, including none of these attacks have, so far, led to a process to hold perpetrators accountable.

🔸Altaf Musani, head of the Humanitarian Affairs and Disasters Management Unit at the World Health Organization, said on Friday, 23 Mordad, during a press briefing in Geneva that these attacks have left about 5,700 people dead and 8,500 injured.

🔸According to her, since the beginning of this current year alone, 914 attacks on the health sector have been recorded, resulting in 911 deaths and 1,486 injuries.

🔸Ukraine, Lebanon, and the Palestinian territories account for the highest number of recorded attacks in 2026. Other cases have also been reported in Myanmar, Iran, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, Russia, Syria, and Nigeria.

🔸The World Health Organization verifies and records attacks on the health sector, but because it is not a research institution, it does not attribute responsibility for these attacks to any specific party.
