🔻Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf’s trip to Baghdad today is at the top of the news in regional media being closely followed.
The head of Iran’s parliament has traveled to Baghdad at a sensitive moment. The status of the memorandum of understanding and the continuation of the Tehran-Washington ceasefire are not clear; only two days have passed since a drone attack on the office of the Prime Minister of Iraq’s Kurdistan region, after which Erbil blames Iran. And by September 30 there is nothing left of the Iraqi government’s deadline for disarming Iranian-backed Shiite groups.
This trip also takes place after Ismail Ghaani’s four-day visit to Baghdad, the commander of the IRGC Quds Force, which is likewise still at the center of media attention.
