‘🔶 Israeli forces fire on Lebanese soldiers near the withdrawal area’
Lebanon’s army said on Tuesday, July 21 (Tir 30), that Israeli forces fired toward Lebanese soldiers who were deploying in a “test area”; an area that Israel, under a U.S.-backed agreement, is set to withdraw from.
In a statement, the Lebanese army said: “While our forces were deploying in Zouter al-Gharbiyeh, in southern Lebanon, Israeli forces fired around these units.”
The statement added: “This attack will disrupt the process of deploying forces in the test areas.”
The incident comes as, under a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon brokered with U.S. mediation, control of parts of southern Lebanon is set to be transferred gradually from Israeli forces to the Lebanese army.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to meet on Tuesday at the White House with Joseph Aoun, the President of Lebanon.
