Iran and Oman on the verge of a deal to resume passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz

According to the New York Times, Iran and Oman are on the verge of an agreement to resume the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz; an agreement that, if implemented, could for the first time formally cement Iran’s role and influence over this strategic waterway.

Under this plan, ships entering the Persian Gulf will pass through a route close to Iran’s territorial waters, while ships leaving will transit through a channel near Oman’s coasts.
