Donald Trump, the President of the United States, had previously said in a speech at the United Nations General Assembly that in the Strait of Hormuz, “more oil is passing through than at any time since the beginning of the war with Iran.”

He added: “Every day and every night, we are processing 22, 25, 30, 32, and 37 ships through this route.”

These statements differ from estimates by the maritime information company Kpler.

Based on Kpler’s estimates, the total passage of different types of ships through the Strait of Hormuz in the past week has ranged between 9 and 24 vessels per day; a figure that is far lower than the average of about 140 passages per day before the start of the war.

Kpler data also shows that in the past week, on average, 8.1 million barrels of crude oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz per day. This compares with the pre-war average of 13.5 million barrels per day.
