German officials discovered a hidden weapons cache linked to Russian intelligence in a forest on the border between Berlin and Brandenburg, in which two operational handguns and ammunition were professionally placed in an underground delivery point.
The weapons were made inoperable and the location was put under surveillance, but no one came to retrieve them.
A suspect was later arrested in Romania.
Germany’s interior minister confirmed the discovery and said the weapons were “definitely” intended for planning attacks.
Security sources told German media that the cache was prepared for carrying out assassinations or attacks by Russian agents inside Germany, and its targets could include defense executives, Russian-opposition figures, or supporters of Ukraine.
