Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine believes that Washington needs to find a way to withdraw from the conflict with Iran, because further escalation will only make things worse, CNN reported citing sources.

"Caine is looking for an off ramp," one of the sources told CNN.

According to the report, over the past few weeks the US general privately made clear to other top Trump advisers that airstrikes alone will not be enough to achieve the goals set by US President Donald Trump, and military options to escalate the conflict would backfire.
