🔻Baqai’s reaction to Marco Rubio’s remarks about Yemen

Ismail Baqai, spokesperson of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to new remarks by Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, said: “Ansarollah is an independent player that decides for itself; it neither takes orders from anyone nor is it anyone else’s proxy. The root of instability in the region should be sought in American military interventions and its domineering policies. If Washington truly wanted peace, it would have taken only one simple step: put an end to its malfeasance and destabilizing interventions in our region.”

The foreign ministry spokesperson of Iran described Iran’s position for ending the war in Yemen as follows: “Peace in Yemen cannot be achieved with bombs and foreign pressure. Peace starts with honest negotiations based on a roadmap agreed upon by the parties.”

Marco Rubio, the U.S. foreign minister, had said the day before, referring to the Houthis’ attacks: “In many respects, the Houthis are factors and proxy forces of Iran. In my view, it is clear that Iran is behind parts of these attacks.”

The United States, its Western allies, and Arab countries in the region that are aligned with Saudi Arabia have repeatedly accused Iran of providing arms to the Houthis in Yemen, and have accused Tehran of using Yemen for a “proxy war” with Saudi Arabia.

Over the past few weeks, clashes between the Houthis in Yemen and the military forces of Yemen’s government, which are supported by Saudi Arabia, have escalated again, so that numerous attacks have taken place between the two sides inside the territories of Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
