🔻At least 14 newborns in a fire in the maternity ward of a hospital in Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital, have died. The hospital spokesperson told BBC Urdu that the fire started in the air-conditioning system in the mother and child ward and spread quickly due to oxygen connections. The hospital spokesperson told BBC that among the 15 newborns who were on the third floor of the hospital at the time of the fire, only one newborn was saved. The hospital spokesperson told Pakistani media outlet Dawn News that the surviving infant was saved by a doctor. The fire has now been brought under control. Families have gathered outside the hospital and are deeply affected.
