According to CNN, the US Navy destroyer USS Bonhomme Richard suffered a severe power outage during operations in the South China Sea last month, leaving its crew of nearly 300 without toilets, air conditioning, galley services, or potable water systems in extreme heat.

The Arleigh Burke-class destroyer lost power on July 24 after an engineering malfunction related to a generator, and for four days it was unable to maneuver under its own power. Another warship provided cooked food before tugboats transferred Bonhomme Richard to Subic Bay in the Philippines, where power was restored six days after the initial malfunction. No damage was reported and the Navy is investigating the cause. The incident is the second reported power outage for a US destroyer in the Indo-Pacific this year, and it occurs as the Navy faces increased operational pressure stemming from the war in Iran and other global commitments.
