According to a report by The Washington Post, the Pentagon today fired Max Ledder, the managing editor of the publication “Stars and Stripes,” Eric Slavin, the senior editor, and Lara Courte, a reporter.

Slavin said that he and Courte were fired because of an interview with CBS News. In that interview, they defended the newspaper’s editorial independence, and Slavin said that any censorship would cross a “red line.”

“Stars and Stripes” is a military newspaper financed by the Department of War and has long had editorial independence from the government.
