🔺 A Proposal for a 10-Day Ceasefire to Reopen the Strait of Hormuz

▪ Regional mediators have put forward a ten-day ceasefire proposal between the United States and the Islamic Republic, which, according to the Axios website, aims to halt the fighting, reopen both shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz, and save a deteriorating agreement.

▪ The proposed plan would open both routes. The southern route would go through Omani waters, without attacks by the Islamic Republic, and the northern route would pass through Iranian waters, without a U.S. blockade.

▪ One of the options is for the Islamic Republic to receive “reasonable service costs” for maritime security and environmental protection. Another option is to deposit these costs into a joint fund with participation from the International Maritime Organization.
