🔶 Venezuela’s government says the death toll from the earthquake is 4,490
Three weeks after the deadly earthquake in Venezuela, the Caracas government announced that so far at least 4,490 people have died. Officials in the country also said that the number of injured is more than 16,700.
Two devastating earthquakes struck Venezuela on June 24, damaging the La Guaira state and the coastal city of La Guaira the most.
The Venezuelan government has still not released figures on the missing, but various estimates indicate that between 10,000 and 50,000 people remain unaccounted for.
The government also announced the construction of temporary shelters for the affected. According to reports, nearly 18,000 people have lost their homes.
Many of those displaced by the earthquake are currently housed in tents or in schools, but with the start of the new school term in early September, these schools must be evacuated.
