Thousands gathered in Belgrade for the funeral ceremony of Ratko Mladić, the former Bosnian Serb military criminal known as the “Bosnia butcher,” and mourners came from across Serbia.

Mladić was buried alongside his daughter, who had committed suicide in 1994.

His coffin was transported from The Hague; where he died on August 27 at the age of 84, in a UN detention unit, while serving a life sentence.

Mladić was convicted of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes, including the 1995 Srebrenica massacre, in which about 8,000 Bosnian Muslims were systematically killed.
