Tensions in western Libya over the UN-backed 4+4 agreement signed by representatives of the National Government, the Libyan armed forces, the House of Representatives, and the Supreme Council of State are increasing. The aim of the agreement is to achieve political unity in Libya within 24 months and hold presidential and parliamentary elections under a single executive authority.

The Libyan Fatwa House, Libya’s highest religious-legal institution, rejected the agreement and said that if it is not annulled, Tripoli will enter a full-scale war.

The Misrata Military Council, an armed group, announced a state of emergency and mobilization in the city on its own and formed a joint operations room. It also called on other armed groups stationed in Misrata to join it and take action against the agreement.

Local reports also claim that the 111th Brigade of Misrata is mobilizing and preparing an attack on Tripoli together with other armed groups.
