🔶 Syria reports seizure of a weapons shipment for Hezbollah on the Iraq border
Syria said its special forces at the Iraq border prevented an attempt to transfer a shipment of advanced weapons and missiles to the destination of Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
The Syrian official news agency SANA on Thursday, July 16 (25 Tir), citing sources from the Ministry of Interior, reported that the shipment was due to be moved through Syrian territory to “terrorist militia members of Hezbollah.”
Sources from Syria’s Ministry of Interior said that the country’s special forces thwarted an attempt to transfer a shipment of “advanced weapons and missiles” from the Syrian and Iraqi border.
Syria has previously reported seizing weapons shipments for Hezbollah, but this is the first time that Damascus has announced the discovery of such a shipment on the Iraq border.
The Syrian transitional government has a hostile relationship with Hezbollah, which during Bashar al-Assad’s era was one of his government’s allies.
