🔶 Ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has reached its lowest level since May

Shipping data show that, after the United States and Iran attacks on oil tankers over the past 10 days, an average of only 10 cargo ships have crossed the Strait of Hormuz per day; a figure that is the lowest level since May so far this year.

Based on data from the maritime information company “Kpler,” the 10-day moving average of ship transits reached 10 vessels on Sunday, 15 Shahrivar (6 September), while the figure was more than 15 vessels on Friday and 13 vessels on Saturday. Kpler data show that on Sunday, a single very large crude oil tanker entered the Strait of Hormuz, along with three bulk carriers carrying metals, grain, or oilseeds.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said that U.S. forces targeted three Iranian oil tankers on Saturday, 5 September. One of these tankers, near Kharg Island—the most important hub for Iran’s oil exports—was targeted. The attacks were carried out after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attacked U.S. warships in the area.
