At the same time as U.S. attacks on the Islamic Republic’s military positions continued, government-run media reported hearing several explosions in Bushehr and surrounding areas. The Mehr news agency wrote that the sound of the blasts was heard on Wednesday morning in the city of Bushehr and its suburbs, and that reports regarding an attack on Khark Island were denied. IRNA and ILNA also, citing the political and security deputy of the governor of Bushehr, reported that two military installations in Bushehr province were targeted by projectiles. Meanwhile, domestic media, citing the public relations office of the Third Naval Region of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Bandar Mahshahr, reported that Guard Mohammadreza Khazini, a member of the IRGC’s naval forces, was killed while confronting drones, as a result of being hit by shrapnel from a projectile. Bushehr is a strategic area in the south of the country; the province has the only civilian nuclear power plant in Iran, and Khark Island, the main terminal for the Islamic Republic’s crude oil exports, is located near it.
