Miad Maleki, former head of the sanctions target-setting office at the U.S. Treasury Department, said about the Trump administration’s new policy to target oil exports, as well as the production and export infrastructure of the Islamic Republic: “What is being carried out is not only aimed at restricting oil sales; tankers, transit routes, and the production and export infrastructure for oil are also being targeted. Alongside this pressure, restrictions on imports are also increasing, and although these measures are still in their early stages, they could lead to the paralysis of important parts of the Islamic Republic’s economy.”
