Last night, the Israeli army announced that it had taken the “Ali al-Taher” heights and the underground facilities located there.

On the one hand, this is a major humiliation for Iran, because Iranian officials had recently warned that the takeover of these heights would be followed by a military response by Iran against Israel. On the other hand, one could speculate that Iran and Hezbollah have quietly overlooked the capture of these heights in order to enable reconstruction and preparation for the next operation, without getting drawn into a new confrontation over these heights and their underground facilities.

Various sources within Hezbollah and groups affiliated with it had prepared the Shia public in Lebanon for the possibility of losing these heights, and in the end, the heights were taken.

We have to wait and see whether Iran will respond or provide excuses and back down from its position.

Lebanese people also understand that controlling the “Ali al-Taher” heights opens a gateway to the next target, the city of Nabatiyeh. That is why the importance of these heights for Hezbollah has always been very high, but with their capture, Hezbollah would position itself in the outskirts and near Nabatiyeh.

If Hezbollah were to resume firing on Iran’s orders, Israel would likely continue its ground advance beyond the outskirts of Nabatiyeh, and might even attack the city itself
