🔻Iranian news agencies reported the killing of Mamosta Mohammad Nazeti, a Sunni Friday prayer leader, in the Chiane area of Piranshahr County.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in West Azerbaijan Province said in a statement that Mamosta Mohammad Nazeti was killed by “separatist groups.”
The IRGC, in the statement, described Mr. Nazeti’s killing as “not only targeting a prominent figure, but also a futile effort to create rifts and division among Muslims and to undermine the unity of Shia and Sunni” while adding: “Such incidents have always led to strengthening and fortifying the relationship between followers of these two Muslim denominations.”
Mamosta Mohammad Nazeti was among the well-known figures of the Sunni community and served as the imam of the mosque in the village of Chiane in Piranshahr County, West Azerbaijan Province.
No further details about this report have yet been released, but it is said that he was killed last night by “motorcycle riders” with gunfire.
