Informed sources told BBC Persian that, coinciding with the anniversary of Mahsa Amini’s death, the atmosphere in the cities of Saqqez and Sanandaj in Kurdistan province is tense and security has been tightened, and parts of the market and businesses have been “closed down.”

Images from social media also show that the entrance to Aichi cemetery in Saqqez, the burial site of Mahsa/Ghina Amini, has been blocked with concrete blocks.

An informed source in Saqqez told BBC that the city is quiet and many shops are closed. He said that a large number of security forces that had been deployed to Saqqez in the past days have been stationed at Zindan Square, also known as Enqelab Square, along the Baneh–Saqqez road and around Aichi cemetery.
