India’s embassy in Tehran announced that a liquefied gas tanker with 28 Indian crew members was targeted in Iran’s territorial waters on Friday. In a statement, the embassy said the vessel “Disha,” flying the flag of Mozambique, was attacked, and that all of its Indian crew are safe.
The Indian embassy did not announce the type of attack or the extent of damage to the ship. No party has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The U.S. Central Command had previously said that, as part of the maritime blockade of the Islamic Republic’s ports, for a second consecutive day it disabled a tanker in the Gulf of Oman. According to the command, the tanker was attempting to transfer oil from Iran.
In recent days, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has also claimed responsibility for attacks on several commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
