The head of Iran’s HIV Research Center announced a change in the pattern of HIV transmission in the country and said that a review of newly identified cases shows that sexual transmission has become the most important route of infection. Ladan Abasian said that in 1404 (2025/2026), about 65% of newly identified cases were infected through sexual relations, and a significant portion of cases also related to sexual relations between men and men.
