Four years after the start of the nationwide “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement in Iran, Julia Durkhro, Secretary General of Amnesty International in Germany, called on the government of this country to begin judicial investigations into the crackdown on protesters in Iran.

The Secretary General of Amnesty International in Germany said that those responsible for crimes related to the suppression of this uprising have not faced consequences so far, and that in order to end this cycle of violence, officials must be held accountable under international law.

She emphasized that Germany can use the principle of universal jurisdiction to launch structural investigations into these crimes. According to Durkhro, some victims and those injured who live in Germany can provide important evidence for these investigations.

The Secretary General of Amnesty International in Germany also, by referring to this country’s experience in cases involving Syria and Ukraine, said there is no reason to refrain from investigating international crimes related to the crackdown on the “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising.
