IranWire has obtained a video featuring Esān Khodadadi’s mother, a young man who was recently sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court in Tabriz on charges of espionage. In the video, his mother says that Esān was her breadwinner, and that he brought food to their table through labor and hard work. In another part of her remarks addressed to security forces, she says: “You said not to tell anyone, we’ll let him go—so where is he, and where did you set him free?” Esān is 31 years old and is a citizen from the village of Yuzbashkandi, in the jurisdiction of Malekan County in East Azerbaijan Province. He has been accused by the security and judicial apparatus of the Islamic Republic of “spying for Israel” and sentenced to death. Previously, sources told IranWire that he was arrested because he had posted protest stories, but a few days later, with the start of the “12-day war” in Khordad 1404, he was accused—he had served his mandatory conscription at the Tabriz airbase 12 years earlier—of having provided the airbase coordinates to Israel.
