Abu Dhabi National Oil Company signed a contract worth $6.2 billion to increase gas production from the ‘Umm Shaif’ field with France’s TotalEnergies, Italy’s Eni, and China National Petroleum Corporation.
Production of six billion cubic meters of gas annually from this field is expected to begin in 2030 and supply 10% of the UAE’s gas consumption.
According to estimates by the Energy Institute, although the UAE had seven billion cubic meters of liquefied gas exports last year, it also had more than 18 billion cubic meters of gas imports from Qatar via the Dolphin pipeline.
The country plans that by 2035 it will not only become independent of gas imports, but also have annual liquefied gas exports of more than 60 billion cubic meters.
