“Abdolnaser Hemmati,” governor of the Central Bank of Iran, in response to the continued decline in the value of the rial, rejected a serious shortage of currency for imports and claimed that a significant portion of the current pressure on the currency market is due to an increase in “precautionary, speculative, and capital flight” demand.
According to Hemmati, despite the wartime conditions in Iran, severe external restrictions and disruption in trade, “the amount of foreign currency provided for imports since the beginning of the year, compared to the same period last year, has only decreased by 15%.”
