A two-piece asteroid in NASA’s picture of the day

Fresh images from the Japanese spacecraft “Hayabusa2” show that the near-Earth asteroid “Taurifone” is, contrary to earlier assumptions, made up of two connected parts. The discovery provides new clues about how some asteroids form and the early impact history of the solar system.
