A Saudi-led military coalition says it targeted Houthi military positions in response to attacks by the Houthis on commercial ships in the Red Sea, and that the operation is now over.

Turki Al-Maliki, a coalition spokesperson, said in a statement on the X network that the Houthis had targeted commercial ships in the Red Sea and that the coalition, in response, had delivered a “decisive and powerful” response. According to him, the attacks targeted positions used to threaten shipping in the Red Sea.

The Houthis say that Saudi Arabia carried out airstrikes targeting the port city of Hodeidah and an island near it. Al-Masirah network, affiliated with the Houthis, reported that two people were killed in these attacks.

The attacks came after reports of another attack by the Houthis on a Saudi ship in the Red Sea. The Iran-backed group had earlier in the week targeted two Saudi oil tankers heading toward the Bab al-Mandeb Strait after Saudi Arabia announced a ban on maritime trade.

The coalition spokesperson says that the “military response is now over.”
