On September 11, 2001, a series of coordinated terrorist attacks was carried out by al-Qaeda through the hijacking of four commercial passenger planes on U.S. soil.

In these attacks, two planes crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York, and one plane hit the Pentagon headquarters in Virginia; the fourth aircraft also crashed after a confrontation between passengers and the hijackers in a farm field in Pennsylvania.

These disasters, which resulted in the deaths of 2,977 people, are considered the deadliest terrorist attack in history and the source of fundamental geopolitical developments, including the start of the “war on terror” and major changes in the security and aviation equations around the world.
