🔶 Trump: Either we reach a deal with Iran, or we “finish the job” Donald Trump, the U.S. president, said the Islamic Republic has offered concessions in nuclear negotiations, but then admitted that these offers are not final. Trump told reporters in the White House Oval Office: “We got concessions, now they have to stick to these concessions.” The U.S. president emphasized that the United States would be allowed to remove Iran’s stocks of highly enriched uranium, even though Tehran has never confirmed that it agreed to such a thing. He then stressed that the goal of the war has never been the collapse of the Iranian government; despite the fact that on the first night of the operation, after the end of the joint U.S. and Israeli bombing campaign, he had asked Iranians to take control of their government. Trump again said: “We might be close to a deal... I don’t know. We win either way. Either we make a deal, or we finish the job.” However, negotiations between the United States and the Islamic Republic are currently not underway, because both sides agreed to pause the talks during the week of the funeral ceremonies for Ali Khamenei, the slain leader of the Islamic Republic. Trump added: “I would rather make a deal, because I don’t want to affect 91 million people.” He pointed out that so far he has avoided targeting a large portion of Iran’s civilian infrastructure, but may decide to do so if he considers it necessary.
