Unofficial reports indicate that Pakistan has prevented the entry of Iran’s commercial trucks into its territory at the shared border between the two countries.

If the incident is officially confirmed, the action could signal the start of a new wave of more stringent enforcement of international sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Earlier, Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, described the United States’ strategy as a “left and right punch” that includes a naval blockade and “the hardest sanctions in history,” and said that these measures are carried out with the aim of increasing pressure on the Islamic Republic.

The Trump administration also warned countries that would enable Iran’s government to bypass its economic isolation that they will face punitive economic consequences.
