US Commerce Secretary Apologizes for Saying That “No American Was Killed in the Iran War”

🔸The US Commerce Secretary apologized for a remark in which he said that no American had been killed in the Iran war, and he accepted that 18 military personnel had been killed.

🔸Howard Lutnick, on Thursday, Shahrivar 12, in a post on the X network, wrote: “I misspoke. Eighteen of our service members have been killed, and my heart goes out to their families, and from the bottom of my heart, I’m sorry for this loss. My mind was on the military operation in Venezuela, in which no service members were killed.”

🔸Lutnick had made these remarks on Wednesday during an interview with CNBC; an interview in which no mention was made of Venezuela.

🔸Lutnick told CNBC: “I think the way the president has dealt with Iran... there have been no American deaths. In fact, it’s only an economic strangulation that the administration is now carrying out on a broader scale, and I think it will be very effective.”

🔸Moments before Lutnick’s apology, Trump defended his Commerce Secretary on the Truth Social network.

🔸Trump wrote: “Lutnick, when he said that no one was killed, his mind was on Venezuela. Eighteen people were killed in Iran!”

🔸So far, the US has confirmed the deaths of 18 service members and the wounding of more than 750 people.
