The New York Times reports that Donald Trump, the U.S. president, has temporarily shelved a plan for a sweeping expansion of attacks on the Islamic Republic.

A concerning reduction in the stockpiles of Patriot interceptor missiles and the risk of widening the war are cited as the main factors behind this decision.

U.S. officials say that resuming large-scale operations could sharply deplete America’s defensive reserves and make Washington’s Gulf allies more vulnerable to attacks.

According to informed sources, Trump’s inner circle also largely did not support intensifying the war and considered continuing negotiations and economic pressure to be less risky.

After 13 consecutive nights of strikes, the United States did not announce any new operation against Iran on Saturday. However, the White House stressed that if the Islamic Republic continues its actions in the Strait of Hormuz or attacks U.S. allies, the military option would remain on the table.
