🔻Tasnim News Agency has reported that football federation officials, in a meeting of the executive board last night, raised the proposal of a long-term contract for Amir Ghalenoei, the head coach of the national team. This is while the national team failed to advance from its group at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with 48 teams and was eliminated.

🔹As Tasnim wrote, some members of the federation’s executive board were opposed to a long-term contract with Ghalenoei; “discussions were held in this regard and, in the end, members announced that they are in favor of a long-term contract with Ghalenoei only if the national team becomes champion of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.”

🔹Mehdi Taj, president of the football federation, has announced in several interviews before and after the World Cup that Amir Ghalenoei will also be the national team coach in the Asian championship.

🔹Amirmehdi Alavi, the spokesperson for the football federation, said last night that “the executive board expressed satisfaction and praise regarding Ghalenoei’s presence and his achievements since 1377. But there were also differing viewpoints.”

🔹However, Tasnim wrote that “the members are ‘at the moment’ opposed to a long-term contract, but it is not clear what will happen until next week and what consultations and lobbying will take place.”
