🔻Shalamcheh border closed again after a temporary reopening
Shalamcheh border, which Iraqi officials announced had been closed, was temporarily reopened for a few hours today and then closed again.
Ahmad Savari, the political deputy of Khorramshahr governorate, said that the closure of this border caused congestion of pilgrims on both sides of the border.
He said: “Following the follow-ups that were carried out and in line with facilitating the return and movement of the pilgrims, it was decided that the Shalamcheh border would be temporarily reopened for these individuals for two to three hours.”
Mr. Savari also added: “After the end of this time period, the border was closed again and movement through it was stopped.”
In the wake of a drone attack from Iraq targeting the East-West oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia, today the Iraqi government issued, as a “precautionary measure,” an order to shut down the Shalamcheh and Chazabeh border crossings.
