Reuters reported that the departure of an Amazon Prime Air cargo plane from the runway at Miami International Airport and its collision with several vehicles left at least five people dead and five others injured. It is also reported that three of the injured are in serious condition.

The Boeing 767-300 cargo plane, which had taken off from San Juan, Puerto Rico, left the runway shortly before 2 p.m. on Sunday while landing and collided with vehicles on the ground.

Ray Jadallah, the head of the Miami fire department, said that at least two people were trapped in the vehicles, and that the pilot and co-pilot remained trapped inside the aircraft after the crash.

More than 60 rescue units and about 200 operational personnel were dispatched to the scene, and responders moved to contain a fuel leak. After the incident, Miami Airport suspended all flights, but its two runways were reopened later.

The company “21 Air” was operating the flight on behalf of Amazon. The Federal Aviation Administration said it will investigate the cause of the accident.
