🔶 Reuters: Greece-controlled air defense shot down two missiles over Saudi Arabia

Reuters, citing Greek security sources, reported that a “Patriot” air defense system operated by Greek military forces in Saudi Arabia intercepted two ballistic missiles launched from Yemen toward the oil refineries in the city of Yanbu on Saturday, 3 Mordad (25 July).

Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense Authority had previously warned residents of Yanbu about the existing risks and declared a state of emergency.

One of the aforementioned sources told Reuters: “The attack from Yemen was carried out with two ballistic missiles and targeted the Yanbu refineries.”

Previously, the Iran-backed Houthis had claimed responsibility for the attack on southern Saudi Arabia.

Since 2021, under an agreement for helping protect Saudi Arabia’s energy infrastructure, Greece has deployed a US-made Patriot air defense system, along with Greek forces, in the country.

This is the second time Greek forces have used the system to intercept projectiles.
