President Trump kicked off the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) dinner with a joke about the event’s awards and then, by referring to the cost of building the venue, compared it to the Federal Reserve building.
“Wow, it was so beautiful. But tonight, it hasn’t been an easy night; so many awards! Do I even have any say in choosing these awards?”
“But it’s very good that I’m back to a place I know very well, because I built it myself.”
“And I’m very proud of it, because I built it with $2.9 billion less than the Federal Reserve building—building that, by the way, is also much smaller than this one.”
