🔻‌Mokha Port has once again come into the spotlight as reports have emerged about the Houthi takeover of this region; a port that, due to its strategic location on the Red Sea coast and its proximity to the Bab al-Mandeb Strait—one of the most important maritime gateways for global trade—has gained increasing importance.

The city and port of Mokha, because of their location on the Red Sea coast and their proximity to the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, have increasing strategic significance, particularly as concerns about the security of shipping and energy supply in the Red Sea have grown.

Military sources and eyewitnesses have reported that the Houthis in Yemen have removed and taken control of the strategic city and port of Mokha on the Red Sea coast from forces loyal to the government and backed by Saudi Arabia.

This takeover brings the Iran-backed group to just 75 kilometers from the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a strait that serves as the southern gate of the commercial route linking Asia and Europe.
