King Charles III and Queen Camilla visited the Bayeux Tapestry at the British Museum on Wednesday, 2 September (11 Shahrivar), along with Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, and Brigitte Macron, his wife.

A work nearly 70 meters long that has returned to the UK after more than 900 years. In this way, a British ruler was able, after about nine centuries, to see this famous narrative of the conquest of England on his own country’s soil.

During their two-day trip to the UK, which was aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries, Macron and his wife visited the 11th-century work together with the royal family. The Bayeux Tapestry was transferred from France to the UK in July and is now being displayed temporarily at the British Museum.

This medieval masterpiece tells the story of the events leading up to the conquest of England by William the Conqueror in 1066 and the famous Battle of Hastings.

The work had been kept and displayed at the Bayeux Museum in Normandy since 1983. With the museum beginning renovations and closing until 2027, France decided to lend the work to the UK temporarily.
