🔶 Iraqi Couple Convicted in Germany for Enslaving Yazidi Girls
A couple, who had previously lived in Germany, were sentenced to severe penalties on charges of enslaving Yazidi girls and belonging to the terrorist group “Islamic State” (ISIS).
The Higher Regional Court of Munich, among other charges, convicted the man to life imprisonment and the woman to 9 and a half years in prison under juvenile criminal law, including on charges of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes.
The court found it established that the couple, in Iraq, bought two Yazidi girls as slaves, exploited them, and the man sexually abused these children.
During the trial, a representative of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of Germany said: “This horrific violence is so far removed from any sense of humanity that it seems unreal.” According to him, all these actions were carried out in line with ISIS’s goal of destroying the Yazidi faith.
The woman, who is now 30 years old, apologized during the trial, and in her final statement said: “I’m sorry.” Her husband declined to comment in his own court statement.
One of the victims, who also attended the court hearings as a private complainant, repeatedly broke down in tears when the reasons for the sentence were read out.
The terrorist group ISIS, in a targeted manner, committed the gravest crimes against members of the Yazidi religious community—crimes that the Federal Republic of Germany considers to constitute genocide.
The convicted man was born in 1981 in Iraq. He came to Germany in 2002, worked as a barber, and had children.
