🔻Iran calls the U.S. sanctions on 27 aviation companies and an Iranian entity active in the civil aviation sector “a case of economic terrorism, collective punishment, and a crime against humanity,” and calls on the United Nations to intervene to prevent their implementation.

In a letter sent by the deputy head of the permanent mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran in New York to Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, as well as to the rotating president of the UN Security Council, this part of the United States’ sanctions is described as “an apparent violation of the UN Charter and fundamental rules of international law, including international human rights law and the relevant obligations to protect civilians.”

In the letter, Iran asks the Secretary-General and the president of the Security Council to urge all member states to refrain from identifying or implementing this part of the U.S. sanctions.

The letter says that the sanctions against Iran’s aviation sector “are capable of causing extensive humanitarian harm to civilian populations.”
