🔶 Iran accuses the U.S. of "war crime" in a letter to the UN Security Council
Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, in a letter to the Security Council and the secretary-general of the organization, accused the United States of committing a "war crime" through attacks on Iran’s civilian infrastructure and called for the Security Council to take immediate action to end what it called "U.S. aggression."
In the letter, Iravani said the U.S. attacks were a "clear violation" of the UN Charter and international law, and wrote that targeting civilian infrastructure, including bridges, railways, and the transport network, is a "case of war crime."
The Iranian representative also claimed that recent U.S. attacks in Hormozgan province led to the deaths and injuries of civilians, the destruction of bridges, and damage to the Bandar Abbas port railway station.
He wrote, citing figures from Iran’s Ministry of Health, that since the beginning of July more than 400 people have been injured and 43 people have been killed.
In the letter, Iran asked the Security Council to take action to stop the U.S. attacks and to ensure "accountability" on Washington’s part for what it called "flagrant violations of international law."
Iravani also emphasized that, in the event of the Security Council’s "inaction," the Islamic Republic reserves its right to take "all necessary measures" to defend its "sovereignty and national interests."
