In a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the president of the UN Security Council, Iran’s representative to the UN, Gholamhossein Darzi, called US sanctions on 27 Iranian companies and entities an act of economic terrorism, describing the measures as collective punishment and a crime against humanity.

He said the sanctions violate the UN Charter and fundamental rules of international law, adding that Iran will pursue legal avenues to hold the US accountable and seek redress.
