Heat in Europe is no longer just a weather headline. In Germany, the Robert Koch Institute has estimated about 5,120 heat-related deaths since the beginning of the year; more than 4,000 of the victims were over 75 years old. In France, Belgium, Spain, and the Netherlands as well, during the late-June heatwave, more than 4,700 additional deaths were recorded.
