🔶 Appeals court ruling issued; Le Pen’s path to the Élysée Palace paved An appeals court in France upheld the sentence of Marine Le Pen, the leader of France’s far-right faction, but reduced her punishment. The judges of this court on Tuesday, July 7, sentenced Le Pen to 45 months of ineligibility from holding public office, but suspended the execution of 30 months of this sentence. The court, however, upheld the requirement that she wear an electronic ankle monitor for one year. With the period of disqualification from running in elections shortened, the 57-year-old politician, from a legal standpoint, can run in next year’s French presidential election. However, the use of an electronic ankle monitor could limit her campaign activities. Le Pen had previously said that if she were required to use an electronic ankle monitor, she would not take part in the election and instead would support Jordan Bardella, the current leader of the “National Rally” party. According to reports, she is expected to comment publicly on the court ruling on Tuesday evening.
