🔶 Escalation of the war between Russia and Ukraine after the meeting of U.S. envoys
A day after talks between Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, U.S. negotiators in Moscow and Kyiv still do not seem to have made clear what proposals they have put forward to the warring parties for a peace solution.
There is also the question of whether direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, with American mediation, will be resumed or not.
Although Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, and two U.S. envoys on Sunday, September 6 (16 Shahrivar) appeared before reporters in Kyiv together with Volodymyr Zelensky, no specific details of their discussions were made public. Kushner conceded: “This is really a difficult issue.”
He said that the Trump administration is working on a “peace package,” adding that he hopes the three-party format with Ukraine, Russia and the United States will be revived again.
Speaking on the sidelines of the talks in Kyiv, Kushner said that all future agreements must completely rule out the possibility of another war.
In addition, Ukraine should be given the opportunity to use the innovation and creativity it has demonstrated in the years of war for the country’s future development and progress.
Steve Witkoff, the U.S. envoy, also apparently asked Moscow and Kyiv to “compromise” in order to find a solution to end Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine.
On Sunday, at the aforementioned press conference, Witkoff said: “Both sides have to compromise and reduce their differences.”
He added: “We think we have the necessary components to achieve this goal.”
Witkoff emphasized that the United States is looking for a diplomatic solution to this dispute, not a military one.
Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, was less optimistic. He said: “If the war lasts until winter, and it currently looks like it will, we need a winter package.”
He also announced a meeting in the near future between Ukraine, Europe and the United States, and in a joking remark, with an implied reference to the interruption of Russia’s attacks on Kyiv during the trip of the U.S. envoys, he said that the presence of Witkoff and Kushner “has worked better than Patriot air defense systems.”
